Privacy Policy
Version 1 · Effective 30 October 2026
1. Who we are
Casi Voice (“we”, “us”) is an independent English-language magazine for women who live and work across cultures, based in Oslo, Norway. The magazine is published by Synne Kristine Dalen, who runs it through her sole proprietorship (enkeltpersonforetak) registered in Norway. She is the data controller for the personal information described on this page.
You can reach us about anything on this page at contact@casivoice.com or through our Contact page.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how long we keep it, who helps us process it, and the rights you have. Our Cookie Policy covers cookies, browser storage and the cookie banner in more detail.
2. The short version
- We collect only what we need to publish the magazine, send the newsletter, answer messages and run our community.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- Analytics only run if you accept them in the cookie banner.
- You can unsubscribe, ask for a copy of your data or ask us to delete it at any time.
3. What we collect and why
When you visit the site
Our publishing platform (Ghost) and our security provider (Cloudflare) process basic connection information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We do not use this information to identify you.
When you subscribe to the newsletter or create an account
We store your email address, your name if you give it, the date you signed up and which newsletters you receive. Ghost also records whether our emails are delivered and opened and which links are clicked, so we can see which stories readers value. We use this to send you the newsletter and to manage your account, on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can change your preferences or delete your account from the account menu on the site.
If we offer paid membership, payments are handled by Stripe. We see your name, email address and subscription status, but never your full card details.
When you write to us through the contact form
We collect your name, email address, subject and message, and, if you give them, your organisation and country. The form is checked by Cloudflare Turnstile to stop automated spam and is delivered to our inbox through a small service hosted by Cloudflare. We use this information to reply to you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Article 6(1)(f)).
When you apply to join a Casi Voice circle or the book club
Our join form collects your name, email address, country, a short message and whether you would like updates by email. The form is delivered to our team by email through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co). We use it to review your application and to send you an invitation, on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a)).
Some of our circles meet in WhatsApp groups. If you join one, WhatsApp (Meta) processes your phone number under its own terms, and other members of the group can see your number and profile name. You can leave a group at any time.
When you contribute to or are featured in the magazine
If you write for Casi Voice or are interviewed, we keep our correspondence with you, your name, a short bio, any photographs you supply and, for contributors, links to your work. We publish this with your agreement. We rely on our legitimate interest in publishing the magazine and, for written contributions, on our agreement with you (Article 6(1)(b) and (f)). Contributor profiles stay online while the articles are published; you can ask us to update or remove your profile at any time.
Analytics, if you allow them
If you choose “Accept all” in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand which articles and sections are read. This runs only with your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), and you can withdraw it at any time through “Cookie Settings” in the footer. The Cookie Policy lists every analytics cookie and how long it lasts.
Records of your cookie choices
We keep a tamper-proof record of cookie consent decisions so that we can show we respected them. These records contain no name, email address or raw IP address, are kept for about 13 months and are stored with Cloudflare. Section 8 of the Cookie Policy explains this in full.
4. How long we keep information
- Newsletter and account: until you unsubscribe or delete your account. We may keep a record that an address has unsubscribed so we do not email it again.
- Contact form messages and email correspondence: for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry, and no longer than two years after our last exchange, unless an ongoing collaboration requires it.
- Circle and book club applications: for as long as you are part of the community, and deleted within twelve months if your application does not go ahead.
- Contributor and interviewee information: for as long as the related article is published, plus the correspondence needed to show what was agreed.
- Analytics: according to the retention periods set out in the Cookie Policy.
5. Who helps us process your information
We use a small number of service providers who process personal information on our behalf and only for the purposes above:
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Ghost (Ghost Foundation), via Ghost(Pro) | Hosts the website, member accounts and newsletter, and sends our emails |
| Cloudflare | Security and spam protection, delivers contact form messages, stores consent records |
| FormSubmit | Delivers join form applications to us by email |
| Google (Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager) | Website analytics, only with your consent |
| Stripe | Payments, only if you take out a paid membership |
| WhatsApp (Meta) | Community group chats, only if you join one |
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We would only disclose it to others if the law requires us to.
6. Transfers outside Europe
Some of these providers process information outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards the provider offers, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR, which applies in Norway through the EEA Agreement, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it;
- receive information you have given us in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email contact@casivoice.com. We will answer within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, or to the data protection authority where you live.
8. Security
We use established providers with strong security practices, keep access to personal information to the people who run the magazine, and collect as little as we can. No website can be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share with us.
9. Children
Casi Voice is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when the way we handle personal information changes, for example if we add a new service provider. The version and date at the top always show the policy currently in effect. If a change is significant, we will also tell newsletter subscribers.
